SDR Salary in Australia (2026): What It Costs to Hire vs Outsource
The average SDR salary in Australia, from PayScale and SEEK, turned into a full employer cost with super, payroll tax, workers' compensation and leave, then compared month by month with an outsourced caller.

The average SDR salary in Australia is A$60,412 a year according to PayScale, while SEEK's job ads put the typical range at A$70,000 to A$90,000. Add the 12% super guarantee and an in-house SDR costs an employer about A$5,640 to A$7,470 a month, before commission, payroll tax, workers' compensation, recruitment and the time it takes to manage them. An outsourced full-time caller through Switchstack costs a flat US$1,799 a month (about A$2,610) when you manage them, or US$2,499 (about A$3,620) when we run the calling.
This guide shows where each figure comes from, what an SDR really costs an Australian employer line by line, when payroll tax applies, and how that compares with outsourcing. It also covers which caller country suits Australian business hours.

What Is the Average SDR Salary in Australia?
The average SDR salary in Australia is A$60,412 a year on PayScale and A$70,000 to A$90,000 in SEEK's job ads. The two sources measure different things, so it helps to see them side by side:
| Source | What it measures | SDR salary in Australia | Last updated |
|---|---|---|---|
| PayScale | Pay reported by SDRs themselves (11 profiles) | A$60,412 average base, range A$54,000 to A$74,000 | 31 May 2026 |
| SEEK | Salaries in SDR job ads | A$70,000 to A$90,000 average range | 1 November 2026 |
PayScale's figure rests on only 11 profiles, so treat it as a floor. SEEK's range comes from what employers advertise now, which makes it the better guide if you're hiring this month. PayScale also shows bonuses of up to about A$10,000 a year, and total pay of A$54,000 to A$79,000.

What Does an SDR Really Cost an Australian Employer?
An SDR costs an Australian employer about A$5,640 to A$7,470 a month once you add the 12% super guarantee to base pay, and more once commission and other costs are in. The ATO sets super at 12% of ordinary time earnings from 1 July 2025, and lists the same rate for 2026-27 and later years. Here's the cost at PayScale's average and at the middle of SEEK's range:
| Cost item | At PayScale's average | At SEEK's midpoint |
|---|---|---|
| Base salary | A$60,412 | A$80,000 |
| Super guarantee (12%) | A$7,249 | A$9,600 |
| Total a year | A$67,661 | A$89,600 |
| Total a month | about A$5,640 | about A$7,470 |
| In US dollars | about US$3,890 | about US$5,150 |
The US dollar figures use the Reserve Bank of Australia's rate of A$1 = US$0.69 on 6 November 2026.
That total still leaves out:
- Commission or bonus. PayScale shows bonuses of up to about A$10,000 a year.
- Payroll tax, if your total wages are over your state's threshold. See the next section.
- Workers' compensation insurance. Under Australian law every employer must hold it, says Safe Work Australia. Your premium depends on your state or territory scheme and your industry.
- Paid time away from the phone. Full-time employees get 4 weeks of annual leave and 10 days of paid sick and carer's leave a year, plus public holidays. That's up to six weeks a year when your SDR is paid but not calling, before public holidays.
- Hiring and running costs. Job ads or a recruiter's fee, a laptop and phone line, and the hours a manager spends interviewing, training and coaching.
Does Payroll Tax Apply to an SDR Hire?
Payroll tax applies only if your total Australian wages are above your state's threshold, so most small companies hiring their first SDR pay none. Each state sets its own rate and threshold:
| State | Rate | Threshold | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| New South Wales | 5.45% | A$1.2 million a year (2026-27) | Revenue NSW |
| Victoria | 4.85% (1.2125% for regional employers) | A$1 million deduction, which shrinks for wages between A$3 million and A$5 million and ends above A$5 million | State Revenue Office Victoria |
| Queensland | 4.75% (4.95% above A$6.5 million in wages) | A$1.3 million a year | Queensland Revenue Office |
If your New South Wales company already pays more than A$1.2 million a year in wages, an A$80,000 SDR adds about A$4,360 a year in payroll tax on the salary alone. Below the threshold, it adds nothing. Other states and territories set their own rates, so check with your state revenue office.
Should You Outsource SDRs or Hire In-House in Australia?
Outsource if you want calls starting within weeks without adding to your payroll, or if nobody on your team has an hour a day to coach a new SDR. Hire in-house if outbound calling is a core, long-term part of how you grow, your product needs deep knowledge to pitch, and you have a sales lead who can coach daily. Many Australian teams outsource first to test a market and a script, then hire once they know what works. Here's the monthly comparison for one full-time person:
| In-house SDR | Hire a Caller (Philippines) | We Call for You (Philippines) | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monthly cost | About A$5,640 to A$7,470, plus the costs above | US$1,799 (about A$2,610) | US$2,499 (about A$3,620) |
| Super, payroll tax, workers' comp | Yours to pay | None for you: you pay a service fee | None for you: you pay a service fee |
| Who finds and hires the person | You | We do | We do |
| Who manages them day to day | You | You | We do |
| Script | Yours | Yours | Written with you |
| Time to first calls | Your hiring time, then onboarding | About 2 weeks | About 2 weeks |
| If it doesn't work out | Your notice period, then hire again | Free replacement in the first 30 days | Free replacement in the first 30 days |
| Setup fee | None | None | None |

Both outsourced options run month to month with 30 days' notice, and every new client gets 20% off the first 2 months: US$1,439 or US$1,999 a month for those first months. What Outsourcing Doesn't Give You
An outsourced caller is cheaper, but it isn't the same as a local hire. Before you decide, weigh what you give up:
- Someone in the office. Your caller works from the Philippines, on your hours, by phone. If the role involves visiting customers, you need a local rep.
- A closer. Callers book meetings with qualified prospects. Your team still runs those meetings and closes the deals.
- Knowledge that stays by default. What your caller learns about objections and openers stays with you only if you keep the recordings and notes. You get a recording of every call, so keep them.
- Every language. Callers work in English, and in Spanish from Latin America.
Which Caller Country Suits Australian Business Hours?
The Philippines suits Australian teams best. Manila is level with Perth and two or three hours behind Sydney, so a caller there covers your business day on a normal day shift:
| Your city | 9am to 5pm in your city is this in Manila |
|---|---|
| Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Hobart | 7am to 3pm, or 6am to 2pm during daylight saving (October to April) |
| Brisbane | 7am to 3pm all year |
| Adelaide | 7:30am to 3:30pm, or 6:30am to 2:30pm during daylight saving |
| Perth | 9am to 5pm, the same time |
Callers in South Africa or Latin America would have to work through their night to cover a Sydney business day, and a caller in India would start at 4:30am, or 3:30am during Australian daylight saving. That's why we match Australian clients with callers in the Philippines. See hire Filipino cold callers for how we test them.
Calling Rules for Australian Prospects
Whoever makes the calls, Australia's rules apply to them. Business-to-business cold calling is legal in Australia, and business numbers can't be put on the Do Not Call Register. But every telemarketing call, B2B included, must follow the Telecommunications (Telemarketing and Research Calls) Industry Standard 2017:
- Calls only from 9am to 8pm on weekdays and 9am to 5pm on Saturdays, with no calls on Sundays or national public holidays.
- Caller ID switched on, and the caller says early in the call who they work for and why they're calling.
- The call ends as soon as the person asks.
A contact on a personal mobile may be on the Do Not Call Register, so check those numbers first. Our guide to cold calling laws in Australia has the details and sources.
